Description:
Kiitos is a mobile application dedicated to promoting sustainable fashion and encouraging eco-conscious lifestyles. Its name, derived from the Finnish word for "thank you," reflects Finland's status as the most sustainable country in the world, as recognised by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network in 2022. This thoughtful choice highlights the app’s gratitude toward sustainable practices and its mission to inspire positive change.
Addressing a pressing global issue, Kiitos tackles the environmental challenges posed by the fashion industry, which is the second-largest polluter worldwide, contributing 5-10% of global greenhouse gas emissions. The industry’s impact extends to water contamination, excessive waste, soil degradation, and poor working conditions—issues often overlooked due to a lack of awareness and accessible information.
Kiitos was created to bridge this gap, making sustainability more approachable and actionable. The app provides users with simplified access to valuable information about sustainable fashion while fostering a sense of community among individuals with shared values. By offering resources, guidance, and engagement opportunities, Kiitos empowers its users to adopt sustainable habits and reduce their impact on the environment.
The app’s development was informed by primary research, including surveys and focus groups, which identified key barriers to sustainability: the time, effort, and financial cost it requires; a lack of accessible information; and insufficient platforms connecting users to sustainable projects and enterprises. These insights shaped Kiitos into a tool that eliminates these obstacles, making sustainability practical and attainable for its target audience of Millennials and Gen Z from middle to upper financial brackets.
Through its intuitive design and community-driven approach, Kiitos envisions a future where sustainable choices are not only accessible but also engaging and rewarding, helping users contribute to a healthier planet with greater ease and confidence.
